The Courses I will Take.

Students learn the various types of health care systems, careers in healthcare, principles of disease transmission and prevention, human growth and development, basic nutrition, medical terminology, first aid and CPR, mathematics for health careers, consumer rights and responsibilities, legal responsibilities, medical ethics, effective communication skills, personal qualities needed for success, safe work practices, body mechanics, body systems in health and disease, measurement and assessment, EKG, Phlebotomy and principles of sterile technique. During the second year the students are required to choose a specialized occupation area for in depth classroom study and must complete work based clinical experience as part of the course. Students must provide their own transportation to the clinical sites. All students become members of the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA). HOSA is a student organization whose mission is to promote career opportunities in health care and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. As HOSA members the students sponsor two American Red Cross Blood Drives each school year. Students also volunteer in activities to raise funds for their National Service Project, Autism Speaks.
