►Medical Terminology ►CPT4 Medical Coding This program is designed to teach the use of transcribing equipment, computers and word processing software necessary to transcribe a variety of medical transcription specialities, and medical coding and billing. Graduates can work as a medical transcriptionist, medical coders, medical billing clerks, medical file clerks, and medical receptionists. Students study medical terminology; keyboarding and computer skills (speed, accuracy, formats); communication skills (grammar, spelling, punctuation); basic and advanced medical transcription (listening skills and machine usage); medical terminology; anatomy and physiology; pharmacology; diagnostic and laboratory studies; specialty medical transcription (Cardiology, Pathology, Radiology, etc); administrative and human relations skills; medical coding (ICD-9-CM and CPT4); and medical and legal ethics. The Medical Manager Software Tutorial is also taught. Students are placed in a 40-80 hour clinical for "hands on" application of skills. Upon completion of the program students are eligible to work in a variety of different clerical positions located in hospitals, clinics, medical offices, insurance companies, etc. The current trend in this profession includes working from a home office. Instructors: Frances King, CMT Prerequisites: High school diploma or GED and 35 wpm typing speed - special arrangements are made for those without typing skills. The MIS Program entrance exam is available upon request and a non-refundable cash fee is charged at the time of testing. Weekly Schedule: Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. Classes start in July and January each year.
